GRE Physics GR 1777 Problem Solution

008. Thermodynamics (Laws of thermodynamics)

You should know about

$latex dQ = de + PdV$

where $latex Q$ is the amount of heat, $latex e$ is the internal energy, $latex P$ is the pressure, and $latex V$ is the volume of the system.

Solution

If we want to make a process that the increase in the internal energy is equal to the heat supplied, we should get rid of the second term of the above equation. That means, $latex dV$ should be zero.
The process that the $latex dV$ equals zero is called the constant volume process.

Answer

(B) Constant volume
